Having not got round to buying any Christmas cards and with the last week of work looking busy to say the least it looks like I’m not going to get round to saying Merry Christmas any other way.

So for everyone that reads this.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

I’ll hopefully see everyone many times in 2006. Have a good Christmas

Sorted?

Well, I’ve changed the .htaccess file so I think the old feed now points to the right place and all the links to old posts should point to the new places.

The old drupal installation doesn’t work properly now but I’m planning to change that soon.

Let me know if you see anything I’ve got wrong

Ta-Da

Well I’ve ditched Drupal and changed to Wordpress. Only a year behind everyone else then. I got fed up of Drupal not working more than anyhing else. I would’ve been happy with it if the comments worked. But anyway Wordpress is nicer, and a lot easier to install with a simpler database structure (migrating was stupidly easy compared to what I’d psyched myself up for).

So I’m sure you’ve all got questions so here we go
Yes - I know is is annoying that it’s now at blog.arcoarena.co.uk and so links don’t work
Yes - I do know I could rewrite the .htaccess with re-write rules to keep links constant.
Yes - I am intending to change the theme (nice as it is) to something I write or atleast adapt myself
No - Of course I’ll never get round to doing either of the above

All Change Please

I have bought one of these. I did a trial ride in to work on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. It didn’t seem as far as it sounds (7 1/4 miles) and around 90% of that was on cycle-paths (which round this way appear to be pavements). Also because it’s the south coast and not Cumbria there aren’t really any hills.

I’ll see how it goes. I’m planning to cycle in most days but winter and lazyness might get in the way of that. The train does cost £54 a month though so that’s incentive enough to keep on pedalling in I hope.

Other than that. I’ve been karting recently and I helped with another fit-up at The King’s Theatre (which thanks to my flat move I now live very close to).

Another Season

The formula 1 season has started again. I can’t say I was enthralled by the first race but oh well.

One interesting event was Honda’s retirement of their cars which Toyota are now claiming to be unsportsman-like. The BBC article brings up a few interesting points.

Since when has anyone if F1 not tried to bend the rules as much as they can get away with? I don’t even agree that retiring the car and hence avoiding the 10 place penalty in the next race for an engine change is wrong or bad for the sport. What we want is more of a mixture of teams doing well. The good teams (i.e. the ones that always finish in the points) will have to have more reliable engines as they will need to last two races. The slower teams can retire, change engine and hopefully benifit from others retirement. I refuse to accept that whoever wrote the rules was naive enough not to consider the outcomes of the rule.

It struck me recently how a small gagdet-freak-addon to mobiles has changed music concerts.

A few years ago people used to go to music concerts and watch, listen and enjoy. Now they watch, listen and spend most of the time trying to get a half decent picture with the crappy camera built into their phone. Next time you go to a concert watch, you’ll see camera phones everywhere held aloft in peoples hands like a poor replacement for a lighter during the slow numbers.

It’s odd that such a desparate attempt to sell more phones has had such an effect on the way people act at an event. Seriously, look next time. It was plain to see on the Radio 1/Top of the Pops Christmas Party at Shepards Bush Empire, and the Cake concert I saw there.

More Spelling

Well, on the subject of spelling, Aralion need a few lessons. Whilst they are a Korean company it isn’t much excuse for your website to be spelt wrongly.

“Support” appears as “serpport” and “Suppport” (in a banner). It doesn’t really instill confidence in their manuals/documentation does it?

Wierd Tricks

From the Cake website:

Left Brain/Right Brain Trick

While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make
clockwise circles.

Now, while doing this, draw the number “6″ in the air with your right
hand.

Your foot will change direction and there’s nothing you can do about
it.

I’m going to be back at ICU on Thursday. Why? Well I’m going to the careers fair for the second year in a row. I’ll be the other side of the stands this time though

Well, that’s a little better.
I’m not sure what upgrading actually got me (nothing as far as I can see)

On the plus side comments now appear to work again.
